Dr. Carter A. Doyle is the founder and CEO of Economics and Investments, LLC. He created Economics and Investments, LLC to provide research and consulting services to help individuals and institutions make sense of the economy and investment landscape so they can make better and more profitable decisions. He also is the Editor-in-Chief of MacroMarketMovers.
Dr. Doyle additionally serves as a visiting economics professor at Georgia State University; he teaches courses in the area of macroeconomics, money & banking and financial markets, and international economics and financial econometrics at the graduate level.
He previously was as an Assistant Vice President and Economist at SunTrust Banks’ corporate headquarters (7th largest bank in US). While there, he was a member of the Corporate Treasury team, which manages the Bank’s Investment Portfolio ($180 billion in assets). He developed econometric models used for trading, capital management, and corporate decision making and contributed to financial market and macro forecasts.
In the first quarter of 2007 - he predicted the current recession (which began later that year) and the big problems with subprime. In October 2008, he was an expert panel member at Georgia State University’s “Crisis in the Economy” (a town hall meeting) and was interviewed by CNN before the event. He was also an expert panel member at a public forum entitled “The Credit Crisis” at Georgia Tech.
He has additional investment research experience with a large pension fund (Florida’s public pension plan – 4th largest in US, with $114 billion in assets) and has conducted research on institutional investors’ investment practices, performance, and other related issues.
Doyle has also been an Economist and Research Associate at The Center for Economic Forecasting and Analysis at Florida State University. While there, he conducted research, econometric analysis, and forecasting of economic and financial data and worked on many diverse projects including special projects for the Governor, Legislature, and University Presidents.
He has given well received presentations to Fortune 500 companies, universities, and government organizations. Dr. Doyle has been interviewed on TV, Radio, and in Newspapers: CNN, CNN espanol, WGST640AM – The Morning Drive, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Sunday Paper, Mundo Hispanico, and other local media. Additionally, he previously contributed to corporate economic forecasts published in Reuters, Bloomberg, Blue Chip, The Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and USA Today.
Dr. Doyle was previously an economics professor at Georgia Tech, Florida State University, Flagler College, and Florida A&M University. He has taught more than 60 economics courses (with great student reviews) in virtually every area of economics and has developed a course on Monetary and Fiscal Policy.
Doyle earned a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD in economics at Florida State University. His doctoral dissertation examined the investment practices of pension funds.
He is a member of the Financial Management Association, National Association of Business Economists, American Economic Association, Golden Key National Honor Society, and Omicron Delta Epsilon.
Dr. Doyle was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in April 2009 in “recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community” by United States Congressman John L. Lewis Office.
